Channel 4 deal for blinkbox
September 8, 2014
Hundreds of hours of Channel 4 TV series, including global hit franchise The Inbetweeners, will be available to buy on streaming service blinkbox in the UK and Ireland after the broadcaster signed a major content deal.
Customers can buy the three Inbetweeners TV series and rent or buy the first hugely successful The Inbetweeners Movie on blinkbox, owned by supermarket retailer Tesco.
Other iconic shows coming to blinkbox under the terms of the deal include Peep Show, Skins and Miranda plus recent hits such as Derek starring Ricky Gervais and acclaimed conspiracy thriller, Utopia. Also joining the service will be some recent Channel 4 films such as Stone Roses: Made of Stone, The Imposter and Pantani: Accidental Death of a Cyclist. Many new Channel 4 programmes will also become available during the lifetime of the partnership.
blinkbox Movies Managing Director Adrian Letts said Channel 4 had a well-earned reputation for creating some of the best content in the world. “We’re delighted to be able to offer our customers the choice to enjoy so many iconic TV shows and great movies with us on their favourite devices. It’s a further sign of our commitment to offer a truly brilliant entertainment experience, without the need for a subscription.”
Laurence Dawkin-Jones, Channel 4’s Commercial and Business Development Director, said the broadcaster was offering another route to market for its catalogue of programmes and many great films, offering consumers the chance to own and keep their favourite titles and hopefully discover many new ones.
blinkbox Movies offers 20,000 of the latest movies and TV episodes to buy or rent without subscription. Customers pay as they go and can watch on games consoles, tablets, Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, set top boxes and desktop computers.
