LG Display has started mass manufacture of OLED panels at its Guangzhou facility in China.
LG Display says it has invested $4.2 billion in the factory and will start producing about 60,000 OLED sheets per month initially, and building to 130,000 sheets per month by the end of this year.
The Guangzhou factory is designed to boost production of 55” and over OLED screens for 4K television displays.
LG has another high-production unit in South Korea at Paju, and between the two factories says that it will soon be possible to turn out 10 million units annually by 2022.
LG Display delivered 2.9 million large sized OLED units in 2018.
IHS Markit, in a recent study, says that sales of OLED-based TVs will rise from around 5.5 million in 2020 to 10 million in 2022.
