Statements from UBI Research say that display-makers LG in South Korea are to near-double their production of 65-inch LED panels in Q2.
UBI Research says that LG shipped some 140,000 65-inch OLED panels in the March-June period, compared to some 28,000 units shipped in the first quarter.
LG is already the Number 1 player in the OLED display market, and the increased production reflects a growing demand for LG’s OLED units. UBI says that German TV makers Loewe and Metz are buying LG panels, and LG is also supplying about 30,000 units to China’s Skyworth this year.
“Consumers have been reluctant to purchase smaller OLED TVs due to the huge price gap with their LCD alternatives,” said UBI in its report. “But the price gap is reduced when it comes to larger premium models. That’s why LG Display is focusing resources into 60-inch plus panels.”
Another OLED report, from RnR Market Research, says that the OLED market will grow at a CAGR of 14.7 per cent in the 2016-2020 period.
