Viaplay to premiere Ukraine doc Human to Human
October 21, 2022
Viaplay will premiere ‘Human to Human’, the first Polish documentary series about the struggles, challenges and hopes of Ukrainian refugees and their hosts in Poland, later this year. The 10-episode production is directed by acclaimed filmmakers including Kacper Lisowski (‘Judges Under Pressure’) and Zuzanna Solakiewicz (‘15 Corners of the World’), along with the internationally renowned actor and director Paweł Deląg (‘Schindler’s List’). ‘Human to Human’ is produced by Paprika Studios, a part of Viaplay Studios.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February, hundreds of thousands of women, children and elderly people began a journey to Poland that in many cases lasted days. At the same time, Poles from all walks of life came to their help, offering shelter, food and more at a time of extraordinary uncertainty and suffering.
Kacper Lisowski: “War reveals the worst in people, but paradoxically it also creates an opening for the good inside us. The support for Ukrainian refugees across Polish society is such a positive phenomenon and I wanted to take this opportunity to show another side of human nature.”
Filippa Wallestam, Viaplay Group Chief Content Officer: “How does it feel to flee your home? What can you offer someone who has lost everything? Only people who have lived through such things can answer. Viaplay’s ‘Human to Human’ is a sensitive and compassionate production in which individual Ukrainians and Poles emerge from the anonymous crowds seen on news reports to speak for themselves.”
‘Human to Human’ is produced by Kristoffer Rus at Paprika Studios, with Barbara Wiśniewska-Grzesiak as executive producer for Viaplay. The series will be shown on Viaplay in both Polish and international versions, and is sold internationally by Viaplay Content Distribution.
