Netflix made the announcement on Twitter, writing: “Jerry & Elaine & George & Kramer & Netflix. All 180 episodes of the Emmy-Award winning Seinfeld are coming to Netflix — worldwide! — starting in 2021.”

The deal is worth a reported $500,000+ per episode, and Netflix will own the rights for 5 years.

Seinfeld ran for 9 seasons between 1989 and 1998 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms of all time. The show, which will be available in 4K on the platform, will fill help fill the gap left by Friends, which will leave Netflix in 2020.

“Seinfeld is a one-of-a-kind, iconic, culture-defining show,” Sony Pictures Television Chairman Mike Hopkins said in a statement. “Now, 30 years after its premiere, Seinfeld remains center stage. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Netflix to bring this beloved series to current fans and new audiences around the globe.”

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said: “Seinfeld is the television comedy that all television comedy is measured against,” adding “It is as fresh and funny as ever and will be available to the world in 4K for the first time.”
