The UK House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee MPs is to question Dame Melanie Dawes, Chief Executive of Ofcom, on the organisation’s work as the regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries.
The session on March 14th is likely to explore a range of broadcasting issues, including the BBC’s operating licence, content standards and the licence renewal of Channels 3 and 5.
The Committee may also examine wider digital policy areas such as broadband regulation issues and online safety. Particular attention may be paid to how Ofcom will implement the Government’s Online Safety Bill and its proposed ‘roadmap to regulation’ as well as the market implications of Openreach’s proposals to cut wholesale full-fibre prices.
The session is part of the Committee’s ongoing scrutiny of the work of Ofcom.
