May 28, 2021
discover.film has announced the shortlist for the 2021 Craghoppers’ Student Film Prize. The Craghoppers’ Student Film Prize was established to recognise the very best and outstanding talent from around the world, shining a light on filmmakers whose debut films have a strong, distinct vision, compelling storytelling and the potential to entertain and engage global film watchers.
This year’s shortlisted films have been selected from over 1000 submissions made by students at film schools from more than 50 countries. An esteemed judging panel of forty industry experts will now select winners for Best International and Best UK Craghoppers’ Student Prize each awarded with a £1000 cash award. Both winners will become eligible to win the prestigious Craghoppers’ Film Prize to be awarded at the 10th edition of the Discover Film Awards held in London this autumn, the winner of which will receive £20,000.
Both winning films will be screened during the Discover Film Awards which is one of the largest and most celebrated short film festivals in the world. The five-day festival will bring together global filmmakers, producers, senior TV execs and film industry experts from around the world. It is here that they will be presented with their award.
All shortlisted and winning filmmakers will be invited to launch their film onto discover.film which is now available in more than 190 countries with an estimated reach of almost half a billion viewers.
Jaine Green, Head of Content and Acquisitions for discover.film said: “New talent is the lifeblood of the global film industry and we are continually astounded and delighted by the immense diversity and quality of the entries for the Craghoppers Student Film Prize. It’s a joy to see previous winners already starting to excel in their chosen careers, no doubt bolstered by the generous support of Craghoppers. In addition, being able to showcase their films on discover.film to our global audience is a privilege which we hope adds to their success in the future. We will continue to watch and support each and every filmmaker.”
Joanne Black, Director of Product and MD of Group Retail for The Regatta Group, said “We are delighted to be involved in the Craghoppers Film Prize with discover.film. Now in our fourth year, I have been blown away with the talent that we see – year on year – through this process. The submissions for this year’s Student Film Prize are phenomenal and set the bar high for the rest of the festival!”
The shortlisted titles are Man-Spider, Who Goes There?, Adam & Eve MkII, Margin of Terror, Duino, I Was Still There When You Left Me, Strange Hearts and Fragile Moon. All titles can be found on Vimeo.
