BBC receives 7 Oscar nominations

The BBC has received seven Oscar nominations across a range of categories for the Academy Awards 2023, from Best Picture, Directing and Original Screenplay to an Animated Short, Documentary Features and Actor in a Leading Role.
Films backed by BBC Film, the feature filmmaking arm of the BBC, received four Oscar nominations. Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winning Triangle of Sadness is nominated in three categories: Best Picture, Directing (Ruben Östlund) and Original Screenplay (Ruben Östlund). Irish actor Paul Mescal is nominated for Actor in a Leading Role for Aftersun, written and directed by Charlotte Wells and co-starring Frankie Corio.
BBC Storyville, the BBC’s strand showcasing the very best in international documentaries is nominated twice in the Best Documentary Feature category for A House Made of Splinters and Navalny.
The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse (pictured) which aired on the BBC in December 2022 is nominated for Best Animated Short Film. The feature is based on Charlie Mackesy’s internationally best-selling illustrated children’s book reimagined in full colour with hand-drawn traditional animation.

The winners will be announced for the 95th Academy Awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles on March 12th.
