Spain: Mediaset suffers major ad-fall
October 24, 2013
The Berlusconi-backed Mediaset Spain commercial broadcasting business has reportedly suffered a 13.7 per cent fall in its advertising revenue during the first 9 months of this year. Mediaset Spain will unveil its formal results for the 9-months on October 30th after the closing of the Madrid stock exchange.
Mediaset Spain, owner of TV channels Telecinco and Cuatro among others, earned €524 million in advertising from January to September this year compared to €607 million in the same period last year. The 13.7 percent decrease is slightly higher than the figures for Spain as a whole, which saw TV advertising revenue fall 10.4 per cent to €1.2 billion between January and September.
Mediaset is Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster, and 38.6 per cent of the company’s shares are held by Silvio Berlusconi’s Fininvest investment vehicle.
Mediaset’s Spanish operation runs Telecinco, Cuatro and a number of speciality channels (Boing, for children, Divinity, for femals, Factoria de Ficcion for series and Energy targeting male viewers).
